About Us

Who We Are

The SHAC Lab in the Department of Geography, Environment and Spatial Sciences at Michigan State University is a research laboratory which concentrates on the geographic and equity dimensions of public health and public health policy. The SHAC Lab re-formed in 2016 and is interested in how where we live, work, play and study shapes our health. Our work includes understanding how aspects of the built, physical and social environments may bolster or hinder mental and physical health.

The SHAC Lab includes a group of undergraduate and graduate students, with workstations featuring spatial analysis software, statistical analysis software, design software, and scripting programs.

We hope that our work will inform efforts to promote equitable wellbeing and equitable health care.

Our Agenda

Our broad agenda parallels the University's: to advance knowledge and transform lives by innovating and applying geoanalytical approaches to vital health care issues.

For more details on our focal areas, please see the research section below.
